Internet | Description, History, Uses, & Facts
Introduction: Internet is the name of the most modern technology of communication in the present world. Internet has revolutionized the field of information technology. Through the Internet, all information including images can be sent and sent from a computer at one end of the world to another computer at the other end. From this point of view, the Internet can be called a 'massive networking system'. Thanks to the contribution of the Internet, what was impossible or unimaginable in terms of communication a century ago, is now being achieved in the blink of an eye.
Origin and Development of the Internet: In 1969, the United States Defense Force was the first to use the Internet. Initially, only the United States Department of Defense used this Internet system for their research needs. At that time NSF took over the Internet. NSF provides internet technical support. US Department of Defense computer scientists built the first internal communications system out of just four computers. It had three computers in 'California' and one in 'Utah'. The name of this communication system was 'Dapanet'. After that just a history of success. Amazing success story of world conquest. After three years, Dagarnet had to change its name. The number of computers then reached from four to thirty-three. It is named Apanet. The purpose of which was to exchange scientific information and other necessary information to prevent nuclear attack. In the 1970s and 1980s, many other research institutes and universities in the United States joined the network. In 1984, the US National Science Foundation launched another such communication system for the general public based on growing demand. It is named 'Nescanet'. Within three years, the spread of 'Nemphenet' spread throughout the world. Many other small-medium networks have already been established. This causes some chaos in the management. In order to get rid of this anarchy, the need for regulation is felt in all systems. The need arises to build a central 'network'. This network was built at the beginning of the nineties of the last century. People of the world are familiar with a concept called 'internet'. Today it has about ten million members in the world. This number is increasing at the rate of 10 percent every month.
Internet system in Bangladesh: Internet usage started in Bangladesh on November 11, 1993. At that time internet service was started through offline. Among them Prodeshta, Chak, Tap, Agra, System, Bidmail, Bidnet and Aurora-1 are notable. It is not possible to use all the resources of the vast world of information through these institutions as they are connected offline. It was not possible to do anything except downloading (receiving mail) and uploading (sending mail) e-mail. In this case, the customers used to exchange mail with the service provider from their computers through communication software with the help of modems and telephone lines. Service providers used to send ISDs to computers connected to telecommunications cables several times a day. At the same time the mails coming to the customers were downloaded. Unfortunately, the fact that no communication was established between the appropriate six organizations meant that a customer of one organization could not send e-mail directly to a customer of another organization. The information sent by one of them travels around the world to another customer. But after the introduction of online services, all communication barriers are removed. Bangladesh has been able to enter the vast world of online internet services quite some time ago. ISN (Information Services Network) launched the first online internet on June 4, 1996 by launching VSAT. After that a total of 12 companies including Grameen Cyber Net, U Online, BRAC, BDMAIL, PRADESHTA NET, AGNI SYSTEM etc. are working as internet service providers. Recently, the people of Bangladesh are able to communicate with the world more quickly and easily due to the connection with the optical highway.
Importance of Internet: The importance of Internet in our daily life is immense. Many impossible things are being made possible today through this communication network. From sending and receiving information to chatting with people from all over the world, conferences, education, marketing, office management, entertainment etc. are becoming possible with the help of internet. With the development of multimedia its potential is getting brighter every day. It is becoming possible for a person in Bangladesh to enjoy an open air concert in New York through the Internet. A patient in Bangladesh can consult a doctor in London. It is becoming possible to buy goods from one country through credit card. It is becoming possible to talk from one continent to another for the cost of a local telephone call. Internet is providing more support to scientists in space research. Media has become easier.
Apart from this, the Internet has many uses including e-mail. It goes without saying that the Internet is closely linked with the world's communication system today.
Disadvantages of Internet: Just as there is darkness along with light, there are pros and cons in using the internet. There is a class of youth who accept evil more than good. Youngsters are exposed to various obscene and raunchy scenes through the Internet. Specific policies are needed to protect this youth from degradation.
Conclusion: In today's world, Internet is one of the resources of modern people. Through this, people's life has become much easier. Currently, the Bangladesh government has made the import of computers completely tax-free, and the popularity of the Internet is increasing greatly. Internet committee has been formed in Bangladesh to popularize the Internet. The cooperation of conscious citizens and the government's goodwill can give Bangladesh an opportunity for future development in keeping with other modern countries of the world by implementing this project.
